German choreographer Beate Vollack made her Royal Opera debut in 2002 on Ariadne auf Naxos, directed by Christof Loy, and has since created the choreography for La Calisto, directed by David Alden.

Vollack trained at the State School of Ballet in Berlin and began her career as a dancer for the Komische Oper. She won the International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi (1994), and went on to dance for the Bavarian State Ballet, where her roles included the title role in Mats Ek’s Giselle. She also trained as a ballet teacher. From 2005 to 2008 Vollack was resident choreographer for Bavarian State Opera. She works regularly with directors including Alden, Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier, Richard Jones, Loy and David Pountney, with engagements as an opera choreographer including Die Frau ohne Schatten and Un ballo in maschera (Zürich Opera), Carmen (Bolshoi), Die Zauberflöte (Vienna State Opera and Bavarian State Opera), Die Soldaten (Ruhr Triennale, Salzburg Festival and Zürich Opera) and Alcina (Santa Fe Opera).

From 2006 to 2014 Vollack worked as a freelance dancer, actor and choreographer. Works include the ballets Don Quichotte (2009, for Opera Wrocław) and Pinocchio (2010, for the Landestheater Niederbayern, Passau). She made her debut as a director in 2010 with Der Vogelhändler (Landestheater Niederbayen) and the following year directed Die Zirkusprinzessin (Oper Leipzig). In 2014 she was appointed director of the Theater St Gallen dance company in a three-year post.
